Sydney Bertram Boyd (1899-1934)
Continuing our feature of looking behind the walls of the houses in your street. Today we feature No: 91 Beaufort Avenue. On this day (9th December) in 1934, the inhabitants of this house set out to live their lives as they would any other day. The family consisted of Sydney Bertram Boyd, born in 1899; his wife Eleanor born in 1898 and their son, Kenneth, born in 1929. During WW1 Sydney had served in the Navy, but by 1939 he was working as a Progress Clerk.
Sunday, December 9th 1934 started much like any other day, but things changed when Sydney was the passenger in a car driven by Albert Summers. The vehicle skidded from the road and ran into a tree before over-turning resulting in the roof being torn from the car and fracturing Sydney’s skull. The car driver and two other passengers were injured, but allowed to leave hospital later the same day. Sydney died in the General Hospital from his injuries.
Sydney is buried in Castle Bromwich Graveyard.
