Samuel Findon was born in 1857 the son of George Findon and Eliza née Smart. He was one of five children born to the couple. His mother died circa 1865 and his father married Jane Donaldson with a further two children being born to this marriage. Although his siblings were part of this new blended family, it is unclear whether Samuel lived with his father and stepmother. The 1871 census shows him at the home of his Grandparents.

On 25th November 1877 Samuel married Eliza Shorthouse and together they raised ten children. Samuel appears to have worked at various trades within the jewellery industry, census returns showing him variously as a Diamond Setter, Goldsmith, and working Jeweler Finisher. His wife Eliza died in 1921and at some stage between then and his death Samuel appears to have moved into a house on the Chester Road Castle Bromwich  with his daughter Florrie and her husband Frederick Haynes. Samuel died on 21st October 1937 and is buried in Castle Bromwich Graveyard.

Samuel’s daughter Florrie, Florence, along with her husband are also buried in Samuel’s grave. Florrie was born on 25th July 1898, the youngest of Samuel’s six daughters and four sons. She married Frederick Harold Haynes in 1919. Frederick had entered his father’s Greengrocer business as a young lad, and taken it over following his father’s death. The 1939 census shows him as retired and living with Florrie at 141 Chester Road, Castle Bromwich. He died on 29th November 1967. Florrie died on 24th January 1983.
