Julian Gwyther was born on 28th October 1847 in Birmingham, the son of Edwin Gwyther and Mary Ann Lander. In 1862 he was enrolled at Rugby School in Warwickshire and excelled academically, going on to qualify and practice as a Solicitor.

He married Dorothy Hannah Hughes on 23rd January 1875 in Llandudno and they set up home at the Elms, Whateley Green, Castle Bromwich. The couple had five children, two of whom were killed during the first world war.

By 1889 Julian had moved his family to Dorset.

In 1899, Julian went missing and the Police set out to find him. A report in the Police Gazette asked for information on his whereabouts so he could be apprehended for converting trust property for his own use. A warrant had been issued for his arrest stating that he had recently been residing at Warwick Road, Earl’s Court, SW London.

He died in 1908.
